Police IG orders new pay structure amid strike fears

Inspector General of Police Usman Alkali Baba ordered the immediate implementation of the new salary structure.

This is part of the measures to prevent the police from engaging in industrial action.

Baba also approved the distribution of uniforms and other equipment to NPF men.

Earlier in the week, some police officers were rumored to be planning to go on strike over non-enforcement of new police pay structure, failure to provide sophisticated crime-fighting weapons and poor welfare officer general.

Force headquarters had previously denied the rumour, saying reports of the alleged strike were false and malicious.

However, it appears that the NPF is leaving nothing to chance as the IGP is currently taking urgent action to stop the said industrial action.

According to a police wireless message dated March 15, 2022, with reference number, CB: 4001/DOPS/FHQ/ABJ/Vol, Department Heads and State Police Commissioners are urged to educate their officers about why they shouldn’t try to go on strike.

The Force Headquarters, through the signal, assured that the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, ordered the immediate calculation of the salary under the new salary structure.

The signal reads, among other things: “Intelligence reports available to the Inspector General of Police indicate that some rank and file members intend to strike over non-payment of the new police pay structure. , failure to provide sophisticated weapons to fight crime and poor general welfare of police officers.

“Note that the Inspector General of Police had ordered the immediate calculation of salary under the new salary structure, tax relief/exemption for officers and men for immediate implementation, distribution of kits and other equipment have been initiated with the force headquarters already concluded.”
